I bought one of the original low profile anchor wizard cranks that had the plastic spool. It lasted a few years, but started to give me problems a few weeks ago. I took it apart and found that the plastic spool was broken. I was in a bind as I had less than a week before a river kayak bass tournament. I had my new spool in 3 days which was a big help. This aluminum upgrade is solid. cranking in current felt so much smoother. highly recommend upgrading if you have an original plastic spool. you won't be sorry.

Reel upgrade

My low profile plastic reel exploded under the strain of a windy day on the water. I was pleased to see an aluminum replacement - guess I wasn't the first person this happened to. Shipping was insanely fast. The reel is well machined and came loaded with new line, brake pads and hardware. It would be nice to include installation instruction with the package. I did watch the video tutorial on the website about the plastic system tear down, but the metal does not need the toothed section on the shaft. I figured it out quickly and had everything put together in a couple of minutes. I do enjoy using the Anchor Wizard on my kayak and I'm confident the metal spool will last a long time.

Perfect replacement upgrade

This spool was purchased as upgrade to the older LP that came with the plastic spool. Replacement was a simple process and it also came with new brake pads. The construction of the spool is excellent and also comes with 55ft of anchor line. Depending on the anchor that you use they can tend to get hung up on the chute which leads to stress being put on the plastic. If you have an older LP crank i definitely recommend this upgrade. For the price it cant be beat to guarantee your Anchor Wizard will function all day out on the water.

Very well made and very happy about more line. I lost about 6 feet of line on the plastic spool just getting to the back of my Kayak from the spool location. It was not a big deal as I tied on a short piece of paracord to make up the difference. Now I can drop anchor in the deeper parts of the lake and feel confident I will stay put. I was a little concerned about the self tapping screws on the bottom of the new spool grabbing without stripping the screw or spool but it was just fine. I would definitely recommend this upgrade if you want to drop anchor in deeper water. The reasonable price is what sold me. Thanks Kameron, great idea.
